This African Singing Workshop is led by Chanda Nyerezani and Cecelia Agatha.   This exciting session is a chance to learn and participate in African song and dance before the band's first performance.   You will be taught an original Chimanimani song which will feature in the show and there will be an opportunity to sing live and show off those new steps on-stage with the band during the festival.   In previous years members of Scratch have participated and this comes highly recommended!

Sing Your Socks Off
What:   Sing Your Socks Off
When:   Sunday 20th July 2008
Where:   Solsbury Hill
Time:   12 noon - 6.00pm
Cost:   Singers £8, Non-singers £3, Children & Leaders - free
Website:   Sing Your Socks Off
Contact:   Chris Samuels on 07971 918862 or email: voxbox@btinternet.com
From their literature:

A day of walking, singing and feasting on beautiful Solsbury Hill overlooking Bath and the Avon Valley
with
Ali Orbaum, Dee Jarlett, Chris Samuel, Wendy Sergeant

- Join singers from Bath, Bristol, Somerset and Wiltshire for a day of learning and performing songs to each other, friends and family
- Arrive on foot to enjoy the spectacular views from this site of Arthurian legend.
- Picnic on the hill and partake of some specially brewed ‘Sing your Socks Off’ ales.

Singing:   Ali Orbaum, Chris Samuel, Dee Jarlett, Wendy Sergeant

Dee and Ali run Bristol’s almost legendary Gasworks Choir and were both Sweet Soul Sisters and Naked Voices.   Chris too was a Naked Voice as well as a Spooky Man (ask him) and runs Community Choirs in Bristol, North and West Wiltshire.   Wendy hails from Portishead and leads choirs in North Somerset and sings with Clevedon-based Miscellany.

This team of renowned local choir leaders will be teaching summery songs in the afternoon for anyone to join in - whether you already sing in a choir, or even if you haven’t sung for years.   Later in the day, singing groups and choirs will perform some of their favourite pieces for the rest of the singers, their friends and families.

Walking
We’ll be suggesting how you can get here by public transport and walking up to this glorious spot.   Or we can advise on parking places with walks of varying degrees of difficulty so you can enjoy the views as you make your way here.   There will be some parking on-site for those who are unable to walk far.   Details of the travel and walking options will be made available on www.singyoursocksoff.co.uk nearer the time.

Feasting
Bring food to share, picnic rugs, deckchairs and cool-boxes.   You can even drop them off earlier in the day so that you can still enjoy the walking.   Thanks to the generosity of Andrew and Annette Mercer our hosts, you’ll also be able to enjoy some real ales brewed especially for the occasion.

Sunshine
In the event of poor weather, we will still be able to enjoy singing under a giant awning.   But we’re confident that we’ll sing in the sun.

Questions?
If you have any queries of any kind or want to reserve a place, contact Chris Samuel on 07971 918862 or email him at voxbox@btinternet.com

Websites

I (Mandy B.) have been providing the Scratch Choir with a website for a few years now and have decided to offer my skills to other groups, clubs or anyone who wants one.   The website has proved very useful to Scratch Choir and there must be other groups who would like to have the convenience of a website but don't have the skills to program and organise their own and can't afford to pay high webdesign company fees.   I'm keeping the costs low by keeping the websites simple and straight forward - like this one!

I'm working on a website that will give more details and costs of what I can offer, but in the mean time come and have a chat with me at Choir meetings or send me an   e:mail   if you want to know more.
